A Festival In Achill Island, What More Could You Want?

To The Island is an exciting new festival on Achill Island, Co. Mayo from May 3rd to 6th 2019. The essence of this festival is to bring together local community and visitors to the island using the best thing that Achill has to offer, its nature and surroundings.

How this unique event will merge nature with art is a music and comedy trail by coach. To The Island is a multi-venue festival, taking in local history and scenic drives as the coach tour brings you on a journey through old Ireland, highlighting some of the most beautiful points that make this place so magical. All you need to do is take your seat onboard and let them do the rest.  You will have plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs, breath the Atlantic air and taste local food between journeys.

Once you embark on your journey, you will be brought through some of Achill’s most historic landmarks with insights of times gone by from a local historian, Achill is steeped in incredible history.  The carefully curated line up will merge traditional Irish and folk all the way into the electronic world with ambient, electro, deep house and Berlin techno with a scattering of laughs from Irelands top up and coming comedians.

The music lineup includes Rónán Ó Snodaigh (Kíla), Caoi De Barra (Wyvern Lingo), Laoise Kelly, Achill Wind Quartet, Cinema (live), Neil Flynn and Akari amongst others. With comedians, history talks, nature walks, surf lessons, ecology workshops and much more…

Two of the standout venues are St. Thomas’ Church, Dugort, which has stood proud at the foot of Slievemore since the 1830’s. And The Valley House, which will be a buzzing part of the festival with its incredible gardens, beautiful courtyard and arguably the best pint of Guinness in Ireland.
